DOG FOULING
DO YOU OWN A DOG?
The Risks of Dog Faeces in Fields
Leaving dog faeces in fields with cattle is dangerous. Neospara is a parasite found in dog faeces that can cause pregnant cows to abort their calves. It can also lead to miscarriages and infertility, making it impossible for cows to breed again.
Other Diseases:
Dog waste can also contain toxins and parasites that transmit other diseases to livestock, sometimes leading to death.
Contamination
The contamination of grass and water courses with dog faeces pose a serious risk to livestock and can affect the viability of the farm.
Financial and Emotional – Losing cattle to disease is a significant cost to farmers and can be distressing for the animals and their owners
What to Do
Dog owners must be responsible. Always pick up and bag your dog's waste – take it with you and dispose of it responsibly rather than leaving in fields or flicking into a hedge.
